The Treatment Everyone Asks About and the Area We Forget

July 29, 20268 min read

You take great care of your face. You have probably thought about Botox, fillers, or at least a really good skincare routine. But here is something we hear almost every day at Chrome Aesthetics Spa: people come in focused on their faces, and the first thing we notice is their neck.

Neck rejuvenation is one of the most requested treatments we offer, and also one of the most overlooked. Most people do not even know it is an option until they see it, or until someone gently mentions that their neck is telling a different story than their face.

If you have ever thought "my face looks fine, but my neck gives my age away," you are in the right place. This post explains what is actually happening to your neck over time, why it ages faster than your face, and what we can do about it without any surgery.

Why Your Neck Ages Faster Than Your Face

Most of us have a solid face routine. Cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, maybe a serum or two. The neck? It usually gets the leftover product, if anything at all.

That neglect adds up. Neck skin is naturally thinner and has fewer oil glands than the skin on your face, so it dries out faster and loses elasticity sooner. It also moves constantly, every nod, every glance down at your phone, every time you turn to talk to someone. All of that repetitive movement gradually creates creases and lines that eventually stick around even when you are perfectly still.

And here in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, we have an extra challenge. New Mexico has one of the highest UV indices in the entire country. Sun damage is responsible for up to 80 percent of the visible skin changes most people blame on aging. That means the wrinkles, the uneven tone, the looseness, a lot of it comes from years of sun exposure, not just time passing. Our dry desert air and high altitude make the skin work even harder to stay hydrated and resilient.

The result? The neck tends to show its age earlier and more dramatically than the face, especially for people who have been diligent about face care but skipped the neck.

The signs usually show up as some combination of:

  • Horizontal lines across the front of the neck, sometimes called "necklace lines." These are the creases that form from years of downward glances and general movement.

  • Vertical cords or bands running down the neck. These come from a muscle called the platysma. As skin loses firmness, these bands become more visible.

  • Loose, crepey skin under the chin and along the jawline. The skin starts to lose its snap-back quality and begins to sag.

  • Uneven pigmentation and rough texture from years of sun exposure on skin that was rarely protected.

Here Is What Most People Do Not Know About Treating the Neck

When most people think about cosmetic treatments, they think of one thing fixing one problem. Botox smooths wrinkles. Filler adds volume. Simple, right?

The neck is a little more complex than that, and understanding why actually makes the whole thing less intimidating.

Think of your neck as having layers, like a stack of different materials. On the outside is your skin. Underneath that is a thin layer of fat. Below that is a flat, sheet-like muscle. Each of these layers ages differently, and each one responds to different types of treatment.

That is why treating just one thing rarely gives you the full result you are hoping for. You might relax the muscle and still have loose skin. You might improve the skin texture and still see those vertical cords. The most effective approach addresses all three layers together in a single appointment.

Here is a breakdown of what each part of the treatment does:

Relaxing the muscle (Botox or Xeomin)

That flat muscle under your neck skin, the platysma, tends to tighten and pull the skin downward over time. Small injections of a neuromodulator (the same family as Botox) gently relax those fibers. This softens the vertical bands and gives the neck a smoother, more lifted appearance. The results start to show within a couple of weeks.

Rebuilding collagen from the inside (Radiesse)

Collagen is the protein that gives your skin its firmness and bounce. We lose it steadily from our mid-20s onward. A product called Radiesse, when injected in a diluted form just under the skin, acts like tiny scaffolding for your own collagen to grow back around. Over the next few months, your body builds new collagen in that area, gradually thickening and firming the skin from within. This is not an instant result, it is a slow improvement that keeps getting better for about four months after treatment.

Smoothing the surface (hyaluronic acid filler)

Those fine horizontal lines across the front of the neck sit very close to the skin's surface. A soft, spreadable hyaluronic acid filler placed just beneath those lines plumps them gently from below. Hyaluronic acid is something your body already makes naturally, so it is well-tolerated and temporary.

Used together in one session, these three approaches work on all the layers at once. Clinical research backs this up: in a published study, more than 93 percent of patients who received a combined neck treatment like this saw meaningful improvement by the four-month follow-up. No surgery, no significant downtime.

Our expert providers at Chrome Aesthetics Spa evaluates each patient individually before recommending anything. The combination used, and the amounts, depend on what your neck actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all formula.

What Your Appointment Actually Looks Like

We know that "injections in the neck" can sound a little daunting if you have never done this before. Here is an honest, step-by-step look at what to expect so there are no surprises.

  • We start with a conversation - Before anything else, we sit down and talk. What bothers you most about your neck? What results are you hoping for? Are there things you are nervous about? We look at your skin up close and explain exactly what we recommend and why.

  • We numb the area first - A topical numbing cream is applied to the neck before any injections. Most patients are genuinely surprised by how comfortable the treatment is.

  • The injections themselves are quick - Depending on your treatment plan, we use very fine needles or small, blunt-tipped cannulas (think of them as tiny, flexible tubes). The whole session usually takes under an hour.

  • Mild redness or bruising is normal - Some people have a little pinkness or light bruising at the injection sites. This fades within a day or two. Most patients go right back to their regular activities the next day.

  • Results build over time - You may notice some softening and lifting within the first couple of weeks. The real improvement in firmness and skin quality develops gradually over the following months as collagen rebuilds. Patience pays off here.

Taking Care of Your Skin Afterward (Especially Here in New Mexico)

Albuquerque's climate is gorgeous, but it is hard on skin. After your treatment, a little extra care goes a long way.

  • Sunscreen every single day - This is non-negotiable in New Mexico. After treatment, your skin is rebuilding and regenerating. UV exposure undermines that process. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher on your neck and chest, every morning, no exceptions.

  • Drink more water than you think you need - Our altitude and dry air pull moisture out of your body faster than most people realize. Staying well-hydrated supports your skin's healing from the inside.

  • Skip the heat for 48 hours - That means no saunas, no hot yoga, and no lounging in direct midday sun right after your appointment.

  • Sleep on your back if you can - For the first night, sleeping face-up keeps pressure off the treated areas and lets everything settle properly.

  • Keep your follow-up appointment - For some patients, especially those with more significant laxity, a second session a few months later gives the best long-term result. We will tell you upfront if that applies to you.

Why Patients Come to Chrome Aesthetics Spa for This

Neck rejuvenation is not something you want to figure out as you go. It takes a real understanding of how the neck is built underneath the surface, because what you see on the outside is shaped by everything happening in the layers below.

At Chrome Aesthetics Spa in Northwest Albuquerque, every injectable treatment is performed by or directly under the supervision of our expert providers. That clinical training means we understand the anatomy, we know where to treat and where to be careful, and we know how to read what your skin actually needs rather than applying a generic approach.

We also stay current with the latest clinical research on combination treatments for the neck, so that what we offer our patients reflects what is actually working in practice, not just what sounds good.

Most importantly, we take our time with you. We explain what we are doing and why. We answer your questions without making you feel rushed. And we are honest about what results you can realistically expect, because that is how trust gets built.

Whether you have been thinking about this for years or just started wondering if something could be done, the first step is just a conversation.
